The company DG31 Ltd, owned by the real estate developer Galio Group, has announced an international design competition for the development vision of the historical Zunda parks territory at Daugavgrīvas Street 31. In this large area of eight hectares, located between Daugavgrīvas Street and Zunda canal, it is planned to develop a modern multifunctional quarter of commercial and residential buildings, providing a well-maintained urban environment with convenient logistics and traffic management.
“This is a very interesting and quite complicated project, so together with the responsible authorities of the city we have carried out extensive research and preparatory work, and our intention is to find the best solutions for the development of Zunda parks quarter as a modern and popular place for the residents of Riga to live, work and relax,” comments Aisvidas Sriebalius, member of the Management Board at Galio Group. "We are focused on sustainable urban development, so the aim of the competition is to obtain high-quality and architecturally smart solutions in order to select the most appropriate option, which will form the basis for the development of the entire area and the first building," Aisvidas Sriebalius emphasizes.
Considering that the territory is located in an urban area where the landscape is highly valued and its development will change the existing urban environment of Pardaugava, creating new perspectives of views and supplementing the silhouette of the left bank of the Daugava, competition participants are encouraged to pay special attention to it. Great emphasis is also placed on the creation of a high-quality urban environment and the availability of infrastructure. According to the organizers of the competition, for the improvement of the territory it is planned to create a well-organized network of pedestrian and bicycle paths, optimal traffic flow, as well as publicly accessible relaxation areas and access to the canal bank with a waterfront suitable for recreation.
Interested participants of the competition can submit their design proposals until October 12, 2020. The decision on the most appropriate solution will be based on the rating of nine professional industry experts. The competition jury consists of Latvian, Lithuanian and British architects and urban planners, representatives of the responsible institutions - Riga City Construction Board, Riga City Development Department, Riga City Architect's Office, as well as the competition organizer DG31 Ltd.
About the competition:
The goal of the competition is to determine the best among the sketches submitted in the competition and complying with the requirements included in the design program, which should be used as a basis for developing a construction plan based on proposals for the vision of the spatial development area and the proposals of the design of the new building of the first phase of the building.
The total prize fund of the competition is EUR 42 000.
The design offer prepared for the competition can be submitted from July 10 until October 12 of this year.
