American rapper Wordsmith to perform in Valmiera, Jelgava, Rezekne and Riga

RIGA – The United States Embassy in Latvia is proud to support and welcome rapper Wordsmith from Baltimore, USA who will perform with several concerts and master classes across Latvia.

During the May 13-18 visit to Latvia, Wordsmith will perform in Valmiera, Riga, Jelgava and Rezekne. The Baltimore based rapper will also provide master classes for the students in Riga, Valmiera, Jelgava and Rezekne. The concerts are organized in partnership with the local culture centers in Valmiera, Jelgava and Rezekne, as well as with local youth center in Riga.

Wordsmith is a Baltimore-based rapper, musician and entrepreneur. He makes hip-hop with a strong motivational message. His mission is to entertain and educate through a message of purpose while providing clean, quality, marketable music for the masses. Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Theater Arts, Wordsmithcombines his love of music and theater into highly expressive performances free of profanity, full of message driven content and fun for all ages.

In 2018, Wordsmith won Best Rap/Hip Album for Perspective Jukebox at the 16th Independent Music Awards. He followed that up by creating original Hip Hop narration for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s rendition of Carnival of the Animals.

The accompanying band of Wordsmith includes musicians who play drums, keyboards, adding musical compositions with vocal and dance movements, highlighting American hip-hop culture in their concerts and masterclasses. Musicians focus on a number of important topics in their program, such as freedom of expression, lack of motivation, tolerance, discrimination and neglect, especially when addressing young people.

• Valmiera, Wednesday, May 15, 18:00 – Wordsmith will perform at the Valmiera Culture Centre (Rigas iela 10). Entrance is free and open to the public.

• Riga, Thursday, May 16, 20:00 - Wordsmith will perform at Kalnciema Kvartals open-air stage (Kalnciema iela 35). Entrance is free and open to the public.

• Jelgava, Friday, May 17, 18:00 - Wordsmith will perform at Hercoga Jekaba Square in the heart of the city. Entrance is free and open to the public.

• Rezekne, Saturday, May 18, 16:00 - Wordsmith will perform at Rezekne National Society Culture Center (Atbrivosanas aleja 97). Entrance is free and open to the public.
