VILNIUS – Direct flights from Vilnius to Dubai Airport, the main airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), are planned to be launched in November, Lithuanian Transport Minister Marius Skuodis said on Thursday.
Latvia's airBaltic will soon be granted the status of designated air carrier for the direct service and it plans to operate two weekly flights on the route from November, according to Skuodis.
"There has never been a direct scheduled flight to the UAE, or a scheduled flight of this length in Lithuania," the minister posted on Facebook.
"Since we have been working with Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports) on this route for years, I am very pleased that the market sees the potential here," he wrote.
Lithuania sees the UAE as a priority flight destination, because it is an alternative to connecting flights to Asia, according to Skuodis.
