RIGA - Considering the huge interest, it is clear that additional airBaltic repatriation flights will be organized, said Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) at the Saeima extraordinary meeting today.
Rinkevics reminded that the coronavirus Covid-19 is spreading quite fast, therefore everything possible should be done to contain the virus. He underscored that the restrictions in force are efficient.
As international passenger traffic has been halted, many countries are closing their borders, the Foreign Ministry is working 24/7 in order to solve the situation on repatriation of Latvian nationals.
"People should use opportunities available today for return. The ministry is gathering information on the number of interested people in order to organize repatriation flights. The demand is huge, it is clear that there will be such flights," said Rinkevics, adding that all passengers will be strongly advised to be quarantined for 14 days upon return.
The ministry is also working on repatriation of Latvian nationals who are outside Europe.
As reported, in order to prevent the further spread of the Covid-19 cornavirus outbreak in the country, the government today had decided that all international passenger transportation will be suspended from March 17 to April 14.
