After 2 months of dropping, new Covid-19 cases in Latvia jumped 35% last week - CDC

RIGA - After two months of a gradual decline, the number of new Covid-19 cases jumped 35.1 percent in the week from November 21 to 27, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) informed. 

The average number of daily cases rose to 446, adding up to 3,124 cases in the week. Testing also increased by 17.7 percent. The number of Covid-19 patients in Latvia's hospitals rose by 4.6 percent. These included two severe cases. 

Last week, new Covid-19 cases rose in the age groups of 0 to 9 years and 30 to 49 years. In Kurzeme, Latgale and Riga the rate of infections was higher than in Latvia on average, but Latvia's Covid-19 incidence still remained below the EU average. 

Also last week, 13 patients tested positive for influenza as part of this season's flu monitoring, and family physicians reported another 52 laboratory confirmed flu cases.
