RIGA - The Riga Freeport plans to welcome 66 cruise ships this year, which is slightly more than last year, Ansis Zeltins, Riga Freeport administrator, said in an interview with TV3 television today.
He said that the cruise season in the Riga Port will resume at the end of April, when the first cruise ship of the year will enter the port, and that the overall season is expected to be similar to last year.
Zeltins said that 66 cruise ships are scheduled to call at the Port of Riga this year, including 13 ships visiting Riga for the first time. Several ships will also stay overnight in the port this year.
He also noted that last year about 80,000 passengers arrived in Riga on cruise ships and the situation could be similar this year.
In 2023, 62 cruise ships visited the Riga Port, Zeltins added.
At the same time, according to information released by the port, a total of 81,681 cruise ship passengers arrived at the port in 2023, which is 7.9 percent more than in the previous season. The majority of cruise passengers came from Germany, the US and the UK.
The Port of Riga is the largest port in Latvia in terms of cargo.
