285 counterfeit euro notes found in Estonia in 2019

A total of 285 counterfeit euro banknotes were detected in Estonia in 2019, the lowest number of forged banknotes in the last six years. On average, 400-600 counterfeits are usually found in Estonia each year. Based on the results for both 2019 and previous years, Estonia has the lowest number of counterfeits compared to all other euro area countries. One reason for this is that cash authentication devices are widely used in Estonia to limit the spread of counterfeit banknotes, the European Central Bank (ECB) said.
