RIGA - As many as 26 medics of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) have been tested positive for novel coronavirus Covid-19, LETA learned from NMPD spokeswoman Ilze Buksa.
In order to be able to discover possible infection at an early stage, NMPD has increased testing of its staff. All medics with respiratory disease symptoms are tested, as well as those who are in higher infection risks, including working in testing tents and those who have been in contact with Covid-19 patients.
In two weeks almost 700 medics have been tested, and 26 NMPD employees were positive. Also 56 employees are in home quarantine after being in contact with a Covid-19 patient.
As reported, Latvia recorded six more Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, which is the lowest daily figure recorded since mid-March, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
The total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Latvia so far has risen to 548.
Of the 41 Covid-19 patients currently receiving treatment in hospital, 38 are cases of moderate severity and three are severe cases.
Altogether, 1,122 people were tested for Covid-19 during the last 24 hours. The total number of Covid-19 tests conducted so far reached 22,575.
