120 people have lost their lives in road accidents in Latvia this year

RIGA - In the first ten months of this year, 120 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in Latvia, which is by 27 more than a year before, according to information gathered by the State Police.

Of the 120 cases, 20 drivers were under the influence of alcohol. September was the most tragic month, when 20 people lost their lives.

This year, just over half of the fatalities occurred in a collision or rollover. Of the fatalities, 53 were drivers, 22 pedestrians and 13 passengers.

Also in 2021, 120 people died on the roads in ten months.

The total number of injured people increased slightly to 3,575 last year compared to 3,452 the year before. The number of seriously injured people decreased slightly to 318 this year compared to 365 last year.

There were 15,558 road accidents in ten months this year compared to 15,873 in the same period last year.
