RIGA - With another 346 people sacked since last Friday, the total number of people who have lost their jobs in March now stands at 2,903, LETA was told at the State Employment Agency.
The total number of jobless people in Latvia has grown to 61,150, according to the agency's data.
Altogether, 17 employers announced collective redundancies in March as they prepared to lay off 3,197 people amid the Covid-19 crisis.
The collective redundancies affect a broad range of sectors, including tourism and food services, passenger transportation, other transport and logistics services, waste management, wholesale and retail, manufacturing, real estate, arts, entertainment and recreation, as well as professional, scientific and technical services and forestry.
At present, there are 27,607 job vacancies registered with the State Employment Agency. Their number has decreased by 694 from last Friday morning.
As reported, at the end of February, registered unemployment in Latvia reached 6.3 percent of economically active residents, down 0.1 percent from a month ago.
