RIGA - In relation to the worker's death during repair of the roof of the Finance Ministry's building, Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi (VNI) state property manager's board member Kitija Gruskevics has decided to step down from her position, the company reported.

"I am ready to step down from the position of the board member, undertaking moral responsibility about the accident. I think that such a decision is important for VNI reputation and further development of the company, underscoring labor safety issues in the construction sector and in general," said Gruskevica who had been in charge of development and construction projects.

VNI supervisory board chairman Martins Bicevskis informed that the supervisory council has accepted Gruskevica's resignation tender.

"Even though the builder is responsible for the situation on the construction site, Gruskevica has informed the supervisory board about her plans to step down and the supervisory council has accepted it," said Bicevskis.

Under Gruskevica's lead, eight large-scale construction projects have been completed and several other projects have seen a considerable progress.

VNI board also includes board chairman Andris Varna and board member Sigita Janvare.

As reported, on November 8, a worker fell off the roof of the Finance Ministry's building and died from injuries at the scene.
