The energy commodities trader and convenience store network AS VIRŠI-A (hereinafter – Virši) has received three Energovienoti certificates for the significant improvement of its energy efficiency indicators. The certificates went to Virši stations in Jelgava, Baloži and Grenctāle.
These certificates are awarded based on a methodology developed by Rīga Technical University (RTU) and reflect the Company’s commitment to improving its energy efficiency and reducing its energy consumption. The Virši data not only helped to develop a methodology for similar retail companies, but also to validate the methodology created by the RTU researchers. The certification is a part of a wider initiative to promote energy efficiency and sustainable development across Latvia based on the EU energy policy objectives.
Anrijs Tukulis, Head of Sustainability Projects at Virši, said: “We are really proud of this recognition which confirms our commitment to improving energy efficiency across the Virši network. Our aim is not only to build new and energy-efficient petrol stations, but also to work on improving our existing sites. These certificates are proof of our continuous commitment to sustainable business.”
In recent years, the Company has successfully installed solar panels and optimised its energy consumption to boost sustainability of its business practices. In addition, multiple practical solutions have been introduced at Virši stations to help improve energy efficiency, such as smart lighting which adjusts brightness as necessary, improved ventilation with heat recovery, and energy monitoring tools that allow tracking various processes online. As we continue to look for new opportunities to reduce energy consumption, Virši will carry on promoting sustainable development by supporting initiatives that are in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
