RIGA - Last week, two suspects were arrested for kidnapping a man and abandoning him in a forest in Bauska Municipality, the State Police informed LETA.

On June 30, police received information that, overnight into June 26, several individuals, based on a financial dispute and using violence, had abducted a man born in 2002 and, against his will, taken him to an apartment in Bauska. There, the victim was prevented from moving freely or leaving the premises. The man suffered several hours of physical violence, including being beaten with various objects.

It was established that the victim’s hands were later tied and a bag was placed over his head, after which he was placed in the trunk of a car and taken to a forest in Bauska Municipality. In the forest, he was subjected to repeated physical violence, after which the alleged perpetrators abandoned him there.

Two men, born in 2001 and 2007, were arrested on September 23 in connection with the incident. During searches at the suspects’ residences, law enforcement officers found and seized substances believed to be narcotics. The suspected drugs have been submitted for forensic tests.

On September 24, the two suspects were remanded in custody as a security measure by a court order.

Criminal proceedings for kidnapping in an organized group have been initiated in connection with the incident. Such a crime is punishable by a prison term of three to 12 years, with or without confiscation of property, and with or without probationary supervision for up to three years.

Both suspects had previously come to the attention of law enforcement in connection with offenses committed under the influence of intoxicating substances.
