VILNIUS - A storm that swept through Lithuania on Thursday damaged the UNESCO-listed Kernave archaeological site.
The administration of the Kernave Cultural Reserve said on Friday that the area was littered with uprooted trees, snapped treetops and broken branches. Site staff are currently clearing the debris alongside student volunteers from Vilnius University's Faculty of History.
The Kernave archaeological site is a unique complex of archaeological and historical significance. The Kernave State Cultural Reserve was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004.
The storm, which moved across Lithuania on Thursday evening and overnight, prompted approximately 50 emergency calls to firefighters regarding fallen trees.
