RIGA - The society in Latvia should be friendlier towards the re-migrants, said Peteris Blumbergs, the chairman of the World Federation of Free Latvians, on TV3 this morning.
Commenting on the question of what the state should do to encourage people to return to Latvia, Blumbergs admitted that it was a personal decision and difficult for the state to get involved in such matters. At the same time, he admitted that there are certain mechanisms to help these people find schools and homes. Attention should also be paid to their family members, who are often foreigners.
"Society could be friendlier. Many people say that those who leave are seen as traitors. When people come back, they are not warmly welcomed home," said the head of the organization.
He calls on society to accept those who have returned.
