RIGA - So far 114 people been tested on suspicion of the novel Covid-19 coronavirus, but all tests came out negative, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) reported.
The Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) director Liene Cipule informed that medics on Sunday received 15 calls from patients who suspected they might have contracted the new virus - in 13 cases materials were taken for tests, and in two cases patients were taken to the Latvian Infectious Disease Center with signs of severe respiratory infection.
Cipule explained that all patients had returned from different regions in northern Italy.
As reported, the coronavirus Covid-19 last Thursday was detected in Estonia, and on Friday also in Lithuania and Belarus. In the case of Estonia, the infected person was an Estonian national who traveled from Iran to Tallinn via Riga.
LETA also reported, on February 28 the Health Ministry decided to expand the measures restricting the coronavirus, including more countries and territories in the list - China, South Korea, Iran, Italy's regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont, Japan, Singapore.
When arriving from these regions, people should take precautionary measures and monitor their health condition for 14 days. Also, residents who plan to travel to these regions should consider the necessity of trip and follow recommendations of local authorities.
