RIGA - Former opera singer Egils Silins, Culture Ministry's former state secretary Sandis Voldins and the current Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) board member Inese Eglite have been selected to work on the new LNOB board, the Culture Ministry informed LETA.

A commission set up to assess the candidates agreed that Silins, formerly an acclaimed bass-baritone and currently deputy director at the Cademi Artists agency in Valladolid (Spain), was the best candidate to work as the LNOB artistic director.

The Culture Ministry's former state secretary and legal advisor to the prime minister, Voldins was selected to work as a member of the LNOB board in charge of administrative matters, and the current LNOB board member Eglite will be responsible for financial matters. In total the commission had to review 41 candidates.

The new LNOB board will take office after the current board members' term of office ends - on December 10 and November 4.

The current LNOB chairman of the board Zigmars Liepins decided last year that he would not seek reappointment for a third term.
