RIGA - In a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, honoring those fallen in the war and demonstrating Latvia's support, the Saeima will hold a number of events dedicated to Ukraine next week, LETA was told at the Saeima press office.
On February 24, the day that three years ago Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Saeima will assemble for an extraordinary sitting for Ukraine's support, with Speaker Daiga Mierina (Greens/Farmers), Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) and Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, scheduled to address the parliament.
On the same day after the extraordinary Saeima sitting, one more event will be held in the parliament house to thank the civil society activists, business people and journalists who have taken the lead in supporting Ukraine over the years.
At 9 a.m. Monday, February 24, people in Latvia will be invited to observe a minute of silence to remember and honor Ukrainian victims of the war.
Later, the Saeima speaker will join a meeting in support of Ukraine by the Freedom Monument and address the people.
In solidarity with the people of Ukraine, from February 21 to 25, the Saeima house will be illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag during daylight hours.
