RIGA - Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court on April 14 turned down an appeal filed by Belarusian company Gomeltransneft Druzhba, therefore Latgale Regional Court's ruling to turn down a EUR 66 million claim the Belarusian company had filed against Latvia's LatRosTrans has come into force, LETA learned at the court.

The Supreme Court said that court of appeals had fully examined all circumstances of the case and reasons presented by the Belarusian company, taking into account the applicable legal norms of international law.

The case deals with a protocol signed on June 17, 1992 and a deed signed on June 18, 1992, and whether these documents could be considered an international agreement.

The court of appeals concluded that the documents had not been signed by state officials of the two countries and they had not been registered in the relevant registers of Latvia and Belarus, therefore they could not be interpreted as an international agreement according to which the state of Latvia had transferred ownership of technological oil in LatRosTrans oil pipelines to Belarus or a Belarusian company.
