RIGA - President Edgars Rinkevics has called on the Ministry of Economics to seek solutions for more extensive support in Latvia's eastern border area, the president's spokesman Martins Dregeris told LETA.
Rinkevics met with Economics Minister Viktors Valainis (Greens/Farmers) on Monday. Based on information provided by entrepreneurs and residents of Latgale, the president noted that it is necessary to expand the housing and business lending programs of the Development Finance Institution Altum, as well as to ease the conditions of certain European Union (EU) support programs for businesses in the tourism sector.
During the meeting, Rinkevics praised the work done so far by the Ministry of Economics and Altum in implementing support measures for entrepreneurs in Latvia's eastern border area.
For his part, the economics minister briefed the president on the initiatives promoted by the government and on new priorities. The meeting also covered measures taken so far to reduce food prices and potential cooperation projects in the field of artificial intelligence.
