RIGA - Respecting US citizens' choice, Latvia looks forward to close dialogue with the US President-elect Donald Trump, Harijs Rokpelnis, chairman of the ruling Greens/Farmers group in the Saeima, told LETA.

The MP said the US is Latvia's strategic partner and ally and Latvia, respecting the choice of US citizens in the presidential election, hopes for close dialogue with the new US president and administration.

The lawmaker underlined that the Latvian-US bilateral cooperation is based on security policy, as both countries maintain regular political dialogue on current regional and international development.

"I congratulate Donald Trump and wish good luck to our friends in the US, and let us not forget that the kind of Latvia and Europe we live in depends first and foremost on us," Rokpelnis added.

As reported, Republican candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday declared his victory in the US presidential election that took place on Tuesday.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics congratulates Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election, saying on X that he is looking forward to working with Trump to strengthen bilateral relations and the transatlantic partnership.
