TALLINN – As the work of incumbent Tallinn University rector Tiit Land, who has been elected as rector of the Tallinn University of Technology, will end on Aug. 31, the council of Tallinn University decided that Priit Reiska, current vice rector for academic affairs, will take over as acting rector from Sept. 1.
"The decision of the council was based on the fact that the acting rector would be well acquainted with the management of the university and would direct its activities professionally, including following the current practices," Taavi Laur, chairman of the council, said.
Reiska, who was appointed acting rector, thanked the council for its trust and affirmed that he will continue the current course of the rectorate in his work.
"While the term of office of the acting rector is short -- 8.5 months --, it includes a number of important events. The most important of these are institutional accreditation, supporting the transition to a new career model and preparing for the election of a new rector, where I will not be a candidate myself," Reiska said." Preparing the 2021 budget will also be very important and likely difficult."
The regular elections of the rector of Tallinn University will begin in the fall. The elected rector will assume office on May 15, 2021.
