President calls on finance minister to continue dialogue to strengthen priorities set out in budget proposal

RIGA - President Edgars Rinkevics has called on Finance Minister Arvils Aseradens (New Unity) to continue the dialogue to strengthen the priorities set out in the budget proposal, the president's adviser Martins Dregeris told LETA.

The president on Wednesday met with the finance minister at his Jurmala residence to discuss the budget drafting process, as well as measures to improve the efficiency of public administration spending.

Rinkevics called for a continued constructive dialogue with line ministries, government cooperation partners, representatives of the education and demographic sectors, as well as other sectors and organizations during the preparation of the state budget in order to strengthen the priorities - security, demography and education - in the state budget proposal.

As LETA reported, ministries have submitted proposals for saving EUR 150 million in Latvia's budget with the aim of boosting public sector efficiency, strengthen the country's fiscal sustainability while reducing administrative costs.

In line with the timetable for the 2026 budget, an information report on spending cuts and reviews is to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by August 19.
