Plaque to Lithuanian 1918 independence act signatories to be unveiled in Latvia's Liepaja

RIGA - A commemorative plaque to honor three signatories of Lithuania's 1918 Act of Independence is to be unveiled in a ceremony in the western Latvian town of Liepaja today, the Lithuanian Embassy in Riga said.

The granite plaque was created by sculptor Marijonas Slektavicius at the initiative of Lithuania's embassy in Riga and with support from the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry.

The plaque will commemorate Stanislovas Narutavicius, Aleksandras Stulginskis and Jonas Smilgevicius, the Lithuanian signatories whose studied at the then Liepaja Gymnasium at different times.

The former high school building currently houses the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences of Liepaja University.
