RIGA - The war in Ukraine that has continued for three years now shows that Russia can be defeated, believes Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity).

"Three years have passed since Russia invaded Ukraine. Three hard years for Ukrainians, who have been defending their country and their compatriots, fighting for freedom. But these three years also show that Russian aggression can be defeated. What Russia had hoped to do in three days, it has still not managed to achieve in three years," said Silina.

Commemorating three years of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Silina called on the people of Latvia to continue supporting Ukraine, as the prime minister's advisor Elina Lidere told LETA.

"Now, more than ever, we need to be strong and united - both in Latvia and in Europe," said Silina.

The fight for a free and independent Ukraine is important for the security of the entire Europe, said Silina. Europe is now investing substantially in defense and is rapidly developing its own military capabilities.

The prime minister thanked NGOs, businesses, volunteers, donors, police officers, border guards, teachers, and everyone else who had contributed their time and resources to help Ukrainians be stronger in the face of Russian aggression.

Silina called on the people of Latvia to continue to support Ukraine. Peace in Ukraine must be just and lasting. "Any negotiations on Ukraine's future must involve Ukraine," she said.

As reported, February 24 marks three years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
