New Covid-19 infections in Latvia exceed 2,100 for third day in a row

RIGA - Latvia confirmed 2,142 new Covid-19 cases and 12 persons died of the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

This is the third day in a row in which new Covid-19 infections has exceeded 2,100. Yesterday, a new record in daily infection was set - 2,408.

Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population rose from 1,056.8 to 1,110.4, which also is a new record.

The highest incidence rate registered in Latvia during the previous Covid-19 wave last winter was 693.9.

Of the people testing positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, 1,678 people, or 78 percent, were unvaccinated or had not completed the vaccination course, and 464 had been vaccinated.

The latest Covid-19 victims include one person aged 50 to 59, two persons aged 60 to 69 years, seven aged 70 to 79 years, one aged 80 to 89 years and one aged 90 to 99 years.

Of the 20,050 Covid-19 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 10.7 percent returned positive.

To date, Latvia has confirmed 180,440 Covid-19 cases and 2,869 people have died of the virus infection.

According to LETA's estimates, 21,022 people in Latvia have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past 14 days.
