RIGA - In a video conference today, Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) met with the Marshal of the Polish Sejm Elzbieta Witek, during which the Saeima speaker confirmed Latvia's solidarity in the fight against the Belarusian regime's hybrid operation.

The Speaker of the Saeima said that Latvia confirms strong solidarity with Poland in the fight against the deliberate hybrid operation of the Belarusian regime at the external border of the European Union (EU).

"We - the parliamentarians of the Baltic States and Poland - must continue to actively inform the international community about the brutal use of third-country nationals by the Belarussian regime to pursue its political goals," Murniece said.

She pointed out that Latvia supports the introduction of even stronger EU sanctions against those who implement and support this hybrid operation of the Belarussian regime. Concrete proposals from the European Commission are also expected to make adequate EU financial support available for strengthening the EU's external borders.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Polish parliament informed about the dramatic escalation of the situation in Poland on the EU's external border with Belarus, and the parties agreed to continue active coordination of the Baltic and Polish parliaments on this issue.
