Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis will take part in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) High-Level event in Geneva, Switzerland, on 7-8 October, to discuss closer transport links and connectivity in Europe, as well as digital development, transport innovations and sustainability.
At the WEF event, Minister Skuodis will present Lithuania’s transport and communications sector and its experience in promoting innovative solutions in the field of transport. The Minister will take part in discussions on what is needed to make Lithuania (and Europe) fit for the age of intelligent economies (‘Leveraging Europe’s Strengths in the Age of Intelligent Economies’).
By consistently improving public digital services, Lithuania is already among EU leaders in digitalization. Great focus is put on high-tech development and transport innovation.
Under Sandbox initiative, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania has allocated nearly EUR 24 million to the country’s businesses that will develop 5G-based communication technologies. 24 smart solutions involving 5G technology will be implemented in various sectors by 2026.
The 5G network coverage is already as high as 99% of the populated territory of Lithuania. By 2025, this high-quality connection should cover international land transport corridor Via Baltica and other highways, main railway lines, airports and seaports.
The World Economic Forum in Geneva is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. It provides a global, impartial and not-for-profit platform for meaningful connection between stakeholders to establish trust and build initiatives for cooperation and progress. The WEF is mostly known for its high-level roundtables and events, including the annual meeting at the end of January in Davos.
