RIGA - Culture Minister Agnese Lace (Progressives) is scheduled to visit Switzerland this Wednesday to sign a memorandum of understanding to keep an exhibition on the prominent Latvian literary couple Rainis and Aspazija open, the minister's adviser Rita Plume told LETA.
The exhibition dedicated to Rainis and Aspazija, as well as Latvian-Swiss relations, was unveiled in the Swiss city of Lugano in 2018. The memorandum provides for keeping the exhibition open until May 20, 2027. New cooperation formats will be planned as well, such as creative residencies in Switzerland and Latvia, a digital exhibition on the Swiss period in the lives of Rainis and Aspazija.
On the day of the memorandum's signing, the Latvian culture minister will also attend the inauguration of a street named after Rainis and Aspazija.
Two years ago it was reported that the Rainis and Aspazija museum in Lugano might be closed. Last year, however, an agreement was reached to extend the exhibition dedicated to the two Latvian authors.
