Mayor cautions half of Riga secondary schools could close due to Sadurskis’ reform

RIGA - Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony) has reprimanded Education and Science Minister Karlis Sadurskis (Unity) for suggesting the closure of 48 Riga secondary schools which serve fewer than 800 pupils, according to a post on the mayor’s Facebook account. The minister had declared that Riga secondary schools should have around 800 pupils. His statement had also been backed by the Unity's Saeima group leader Sarmite Elerte, Usakovs noted.
