RIGA - The majority of residents of Latvia, or 65 percent, are happy with the way their lives are going, according to a survey carried out by research company Kantar.
The majority of these respondents are Latvians (71 percent) and residents with higher education (also 71 percent). Among managers and executives, this share is 73 percent, and among people making more than EUR 1,500 a month - 85 percent.
Respondents whose quality of life has improved or remained unchanged this past year are also more likely to be satisfied with their lives. Overall, 91 percent of those whose quality of life has improved and 76 percent of those whose quality of life has remained the same said that they were happy with the way their lives were going, according to Kantar.
On the other hand, 28 percent of respondents said that their quality of life in terms of comfort or finances had deteriorated in the last 12 months. The survey finds that respondents in the 55-64 age group have experienced the steepest deterioration in quality of life: 41 percent.
In the meantime, 37 percent of respondents aged 18-24 say their quality of life has improved, as do 29 percent of respondents aged 25-43.
The survey has found that the quality of life has most often not changed, in 71 percent of cases, for people aged 65 to 74.
A quarter or 25 percent of respondents who said that their quality of life had improved are residents of Riga, the survey found.
The survey was carried out by research company Kantar December 3 to 5 last year by online interviews with 800 people across Latvia aged 18-74.
