VILNIUS – With the Lithuanian government set to consider on Wednesday a new lockdown amid the worsening coronavirus situation in the country, Economy and Innovation Minister Ausrine Armonaite said that economic activities cannot be restricted.

"With vaccinations and the immunity certificate being available, we must keep economic activities open," the minister told reporters.

"Perhaps with certain safeguards in place so that we can all work safely, but now that we have vaccines available to everyone [...], and an electronic tool like the immunity certificate and other documents proving one's vaccination status, we can keep the economy open," she said.

"Schools should also remain open to children," Armonaite added. "Apparently, increasing testing capacities and perhaps tightening safety requirements in educational institutions is the direction to follow."
