Lithuania's Merko Statyba to build wind farm in Latvia for EUR 30 million

VILNIUS - MB.MS, a joint venture established by Latvia's Merko Buve and Lithuania's Merko Statyba, the two subsidiaries of Estonian group Merko Ehitus in Latvia and Lithuania, will build a wind farm in Latvia's Smiltene District for more than 30 million euros, the Lithuanian company said on Monday.

Under the contract, the two companies will build the foundations for 16 wind turbines in Latvia by the second quarter of 2027, as well as lay power cables and build internal roads, it said.

"We have a specialized team working in this sector and have already installed more than 220 wind turbine foundations," Saulius Putrimas, CEO of Merko Statyba, said in a statement, adding that that his company has completed 17 wind farm projects over the last decade.

Merko Ehitus Group, which operates in three Baltic states, had a turnover of 539 million euros last year and has 605 employees.
