VILNIUS - The court of first instance - the Panevezys Regional Court- on Thursday sentenced former MP Kristijonas Bartosevicius to seven years in prison for sexual crimes against minors.

The former lawmaker was charged with ten criminal offenses: two counts of sexually abusing a young child and a minor, four counts of molesting a person under 16, and four counts of causing minor health impairment.

In February, prosecutor Donatas Skrebiskis, who was pursuing the case, proposed a ten-year prison sentence for Bartosevicius, followed by a five-year ban on working with children.

Four children were recognized as victims in the case, and the court accepted three civil claims filed by the victims' representatives.

After news of the investigation broke, Bartosevicius resigned from the parliament in early 2023.
