RIGA - Latvian resident who are outside the European Union (EU) could be suddenly ''stuck'' for quite a while due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) told TV3 this morning.
The politician noted that these people have gone abroad already knowing very well what the situation is in the world, and that due to the Covid-19 pandemic countries may impose various restrictions on movement at any moment.
Therefore, now these people should not hope that the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be able to help "pull" them back within a few days, because the opportunities to assist them have become even smaller than at the beginning of the pandemic in the spring.
Rinkevics repeatedly called on the people of Latvia to very carefully assess the need for foreign trips, and that trips within the Baltics are the maximum residents should consider. The minister noted that the situation regarding Covid-19 remains very volatile, and a country, which was still on the "green list" yesterday, may today be on the "red list", which requires self-quarantine.
