It is not yet clear how realistic it is to achieve a 30 percent pay rise for medics next year, but if it does not happen, the health sector will prepare for protests, Karlis Racenis, chairman of the Latvian Junior Doctors Association, said on August 20.
"This is how we see it - the law comes into force next year. We do not believe that it should be changed and we are waiting for the 30 percent salary increase as promised," Racenis said. In his words, if this pay increase is secured, it will be possible to discuss new goals, including a new pay system.
