Latvian Ministry proposes to scrap payment of benefit for first three days of sickness

In order to save resources, the Latvian Welfare Ministry proposes not to pay the benefit for the first three days of a sick leave instead of the current regulations that only the first day is unpaid, according to the informative report submitted to the government’s meeting. The Welfare Ministry proposes that employers pay sick leave benefit for a time period from the 4th until the 11th day of sickness - at 75 per cent of the average wage for the 4th and 5th day, and at 80 percent for the 6th-11th day.
