RIGA - Latvia has so far invested more than EUR 890 million in various types of support to Ukraine, said Viktors Valainis, Minister of the Economy (Greens/Farmers), in an interview with Latvian Radio on Thursday.

He noted that the support to Ukraine amounting to more than 890 million euros so far represents 0.7 percent of Latvia's gross domestic product (GDP).

"We need to raise awareness among other countries that Ukraine needs all the support it can get to rebuild its country," Valainis stressed.

Valainis is on a working visit to the Italian capital Rome, where he is attending the annual high-level conference on Ukraine's reconstruction and meet with local business representatives.

The main objective of the Ukraine Reconstruction 2025 conference is to facilitate international support and investment for Ukraine's recovery, reconstruction, reform and modernization, as well as to highlight Ukraine's progress in reform and towards European Union membership. The event will discuss the support provided by European countries to Ukraine and the way forward.

Representatives from Southern Europe, Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic States, as well as a large Ukrainian delegation, will participate in the event.

The Minister of Economy is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity), European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification, to discuss economic cooperation with Ukraine, the participation of Latvian entrepreneurs in the reconstruction of Ukraine and Latvia's support to Ukraine.

During his visit, Valainis will also meet with the management of an Italian railway engineering company, a steel producer, a military goods manufacturer and other local companies.
