Latvia confirms record number of new Covid-19 cases for second day in a row - 3,133 cases

RIGA - Latvia confirmed 3,133 new Covid-19 cases and 25 persons died of the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

This is so far the highest number of new Covid-19 cases registered a day. The previous record, 2,935 cases, was registered on Thursday.

Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population rose from 1,463.3 to 1,539.2, the highest figure ever recorded in Latvia.

The highest cumulative Covid-19 incidence recorder last winter season was on January 10 - 693.9.

Of the people testing positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, 2,398 people were unvaccinated or had not completed the vaccination course, and 735 had been vaccinated.

The latest Covid-19 victims include two persons aged 40 to 49, four persons aged 50 to 59, six persons aged 60 to 69 years, five aged 70 to 79 years, two aged 80 to 89 years, and six aged 90 to 99.

Of the 21,566 Covid-19 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 14.5 percent returned positive.

To date, Latvia has confirmed 197,389 Covid-19 cases and 2,992 people have died of the virus infection.

According to LETA's estimates, 29,141 people in Latvia have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past 14 days.
