RIGA - It is high time for the state administration to move back to face-to-face work, said Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, who met with Saeima speaker Daiga Mierina (Green/Farmers) on Monday at the Riga Castle

According to Rinkevics, the current situation in the country is critical, as the public trust in state power is low. According to the president, this trust can be improved through targeted steps.

The president stressed that the Saeima committees often work partly remotely and partly in person. "In my opinion, it is high time for both the Saeima, by setting an example, and the entire public administration to switch to working in person," Rinkevics said.

The president hopes that such a move will take place, adding that no excuses should be made for not having time to come to work. The public, seeing how the public administration and the members of the Saeima work, has the right to ask for the conversation to take place in person and not on a computer, the president stressed.

The Saeima speaker agreed that there are discussions in society about the organization of parliamentary work and internal cooperation. In Mierina's opinion, there is a need for discussion in the Saeima, which is why she will encourage a meeting next week with the chairpersons of the parliamentary factions to discuss these issues.

She will call on MPs to "think and act nationally, not just at a party level" in order to restore "some" confidence in the work of the Saeima.
