Iranian, Syrian and Afghan nationals detained at Riga Airport for traveling on fake documents

RIGA - Iranian, Syrian and Afghan nationals were detained at Riga International Airport last weekend for traveling on fake documents, LETA was told at the State Border Guard.

Border guards at the airport's checkpoint held one Iranian national with a counterfeit Greek ID card, a Syrian national with a counterfeit Romanian ID card and an Afghan national traveling on someone else's Swiss passport. 

In connection with these cases, two criminal procedures have been started over use of counterfeit documents and one for hiding one's identity. 

All the detained foreigners have been placed in the State Police's short-term detention facility. 

An Uzbek national who had flown into Riga from Tashkent was turned over to the police after it turned out he was being sought by law enforcement authorities.
