RIGA - Residents and businesses are very interested in installing solar panels, which means that in one to three years Latvia should be able to fully provide itself with electricity, at least in the summer months, as distribution company Sadales Tikls CEO Sandis Jansons said in an interview with Latvian Radio Monday morning.

According to Jansons, residents and companies have been so active in installing solar panels that in a couple of years some of electricity produced in Latvia in the summer should be left over, therefore electricity prices should be much lower by then.

Jansons emphasized that Sadales Tikls cooperated with all companies planning to install solar panels for own consumption. For those that plan to sell electricity generated by their solar panels, the situation is different and the available capacities are assessed individually.
