RIGA - At the end of this week, first conclusions can be drawn on further easing restrictions if there is no rise in the number of new Covid-19 cases and hospitalized patients, Health Minister Ilze Vinkele (For Development) said in a press conference on Tuesday.

"The trend in Latvia shows that the infection is decreasing, which means that the restrictive measures reach the target, but we are seeing several separate outbreaks," the politician said.

Vinkele said that special attention is paid to social care centers where people who belong to Covid-19 risk groups live.  The minister said that this approach will be continued.

Vinkele said that the government will keep to the exit strategy that has been developed in cooperation with experts and includes assessment of the situation in line with four factors in a four-week period.

The minister had previously announced that the government would decide on changes in the restrictions taking into account in four areas: the epidemiological situation, the burden on the health care system, the situation abroad and general public safety, including control measures, and the psychological well-being and resilience of society.
