VILNIUS – Foreign citizens and emigrants returning to Lithuania and having no health insurance will be treated for the coronavirus at the state's expense, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

Medical establishment will have to accept and treat these persons after such a decision was made by Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga, also acting as the state emergency operations manager.

The treatment of such patients will be covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund's budget during the ongoing quarantine, and later the expenses will be compensated from Lithuania's state reserve.

Lithuania was placed under quarantine on March 16 and it was later extended until April 27. The lockdown might be extended for another two weeks.
