RIGA - The Foreign Ministry's Under Secretary and Political Director Ivars Lasis during a meeting with Argentine Foreign Ministry's Foreign Policy Under-Secretary Marcia Rosa Levaggi in Buenos Aires underlined the need to work toward further containment of Russia, as the Foreign Ministry informed LETA.
On September 30, in Buenos Aires, Lasis met with his Argentine counterpart for the fourth political consultations between Latvia and Argentina. At the meeting, Lasis thanked Argentina for its strong international support and military assistance to Ukraine.
The Latvian and Argentine officials confirmed their willingness to strengthen bilateral relations between the countries and exchanged views on opportunities to expand economic cooperation in areas such as information and communication technologies, culture and education. Lasis also expressed his support for the finalization of trade agreement negotiations between the European Union and Mercosur in the near future.
Given that Latvia and Argentina are like-minded countries, closer cooperation in international organizations, especially the United Nations, was also on the agenda, said the Foreign Ministry. In addition, the diplomats discussed the situation in the Middle East and current developments in Latin America and the Caribbean region, including cooperation formats with the European Union.
During their visit to Buenos Aires, the Latvian delegation met with the head of the EU Delegation to Argentina, the ambassadors of Ukraine and Finland to Argentina, researchers, and Latvians living in Buenos Aires.
