RIGA - Latvia welcomes the fall of the Assad regime, which we hope to be a significant step towards the creation of a democratic and inclusive Syria, the Latvian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday.
"We call on all parties to engage constructively towards this aim, ensuring a peaceful transition, safeguarding Syria’s territorial integrity, and protecting the rights of civilians, including minorities," the ministry said in the statement on X.
As reported, Syrian rebel groups last Sunday captured Damascus, taking control of the Syrian capital and forcing dictator Bashar al-Assad to flee the country.
