RIGA - In the past 14 days, there were 36 new Covid-19 cases registered in Latvia, and one fifth of them was related with return from abroad, said Jurijs Perevoscikovs, head of the Infectious Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, in a press conference today.
He said that as travel restrictions will be lifted, this factor should be taken into account. He also said that some countries have started to "celebrate" the new life too soon, and the number of cases has risen again, such as in Sweden.
Perevoscikovs said that Latvia has successfully curbed the virus and has learned to control it.
The expert reminded that physical distancing principle still should be observed, as well as hygiene. "The virus remains as it was. It is spreading through droplets released by an infected person. Following precautionary measures, outbreak of the virus will be controlled," he said.
As reported, the state of emergency ends tomorrow, but different restrictions will remain in force.
