RIGA - The European Union (EU) must open its doors more widely to Ukraine on its path to accession to the EU, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) said at a meeting of the bloc's heads of state and government in Brussels.
According to Karins' spokespeople, before the European Council meeting, which was attended also by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Latvian prime minister stated that Europe must firmly support Ukraine until its victory in the war against Russian imperialism.
Western allies must not delay their military support to Ukraine at a time when Russia is concentrating its armed forces in Donbas, Karins said.
This Thursday and Friday, Karins is attending the European Council meeting in Brussels at which EU leaders are expected to decide on continued support to Ukraine, the economic situation and migration, LETA was told at the premier's office.
