TALLINN - Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas was unable to attend the meeting in Riga with the prime ministers of Latvia and Lithuania due to bad weather, the Estonian government's press service told Interfax.

The plane of the police and border guard protection department that was carrying Ratas was unable to land at the Riga Airport due to bad weather and had to fly back to Tallinn, it said.

Latvia chairs the Baltic Council of Ministers this year, and its priorities that include increasing security, developing regional interaction, and protecting unified values in the European Union are equally important to everyone, the Estonian prime ministerial press service quoted Ratas as saying.

"I'm very sorry that I could not meet with the prime ministers of Latvia and Lithuania now to discuss these issues. Therefore, I have apologized to both of my colleagues," Ratas said.

Ratas was replaced at the meeting by Estonian Ambassador to Latvia Arti Hilpus, the press service said.
