TALLINN – The Riigikogu finance committee decided on Tuesday to forward the list of candidates for the new composition of the supervisory board of the Bank of Estonia, submitted by the chairman of the supervisory board Mart Laar, to the plenary for endorsement, the news portal of public broadcaster ERR reported.

Laar has put before lawmakers a draft resolution of the parliament to appoint Enn Eesmaa, Kaie Kerem, Enn Listra, Rein Minka, Ivari Padar, Jaanus Tamkivi and Urmas Varblane as members of the central bank's supervisory board.

According to opinions voiced earlier, the list may cause controversy in the ranks of both the opposition and the ruling coalition when put to a vote in the chamber.

The leader of the Reform Party, Kaja Kallas, has said that Reform cannot support the proposal as it has not been negotiated with them, is politically unbalanced and the new lineup should include more experts. While Laar has proposed Jaanus Tamkivi to serve as the representative of Reform on the new supervisory board, the Reform Party itself would like to see Andres Sutt in that position.

In accordance with the Riigikogu house rules, the draft resolution will be handled in a single reading, during which MPs may each ask one oral question to the presenter from the lead committee. After the debate is closed, the bill is put to the final vote.

A majority of votes in favor is required for the draft resolution to pass.
